during these tough times. The society not only provides financial support for treatment of cancer, it also provides emotional and psychosocial support to the entire family.

Chemotherapy is the mainstay of treatment of childhood cancers. A dedicated pediatric oncology unit can administer chemotherapy and manage the adverse effects well. Arpita cancer society helps children receive chemotherapy safely at the pediatric oncology unit at DMCH.
Various training courses for doctors and staff nurses have been conducted under the umbrella of Arpita cancer society to increase their knowledge regarding safe administration of chemotherapy in small children.
A malnourished child is likely to have higher adverse effects of chemotherapy. Our society provides regular protein supplements, RUTF ( ready to use therapeutic foods), milk and fruits to children receiving cancer treatment.Special meals are arranged to celebrate festivals and birthdays.
RADIOTHERAPY for children with solid tumors like Brain tumors, rhabdomyosarcoma, Wilm's tumor etc.
Surgery
Bone marrow transplant (BMT)ie. replacement of patient's defective stem cells with newer stem cells. It is done in some cancers like AML, Relapsed ALL,neuroblastoma.
Children with cancer may need treatment with other modalities like surgery, radiotherapy and BMT. Children can receive any of these at DMCH with our support.
Seminars have been conducted in schools to raise awareness about early signs of Childhood Cancers.

With the help of Arpita cancer society, 102 children have completed their treatment and 73 are still receiving treatment. The pediatric oncology department has grown leaps and bounds from being a single bedded unit to a complete ward with 26 beds where children come and receive their medications.

Karan Bansal , known case of Non- Hodgkin Lymphoma, a child of age 4 years going to turn 5 on 24th April,2020 has got new life after completing his treatment during this COVID-19. He came on 26th November,2019 after his operation of tumor in his stomach in Baba Farid University. From there he came to DMC Hospital, Ludhiana on 26th November,2019 for his further Chemotherapy. His father is the only earning member of the family as Karan is the only brother of 2 sisters, and it was very difficult to get his treatment done because his father is a daily wager and it was not easy to get the treatment done financially. So he was enrolled under Arpita Cancer Society. His whole treatment was done with the support of Arpita Cancer Society.
He was living in the accommodation near the hospital during his treatment and on 18th April,2020 after completing his treatment he was again sent back as he was called for next follow up on 22nd April,2020. Finally he was examined by Dr. Shruti Kakkar and she planned to send him back home as he is doing well now. He was appreciated with a token of love with warm wishes of health and happiness by Dr. Shruti Kakkar and other staff members. He was provided Ambulance and he was sent back home on 23rd April,2020 one day before his birthday. It is a time of happiness when one of our Brave Fighter fought with Cancer in these Circumstances. It is a very proud moment for Arpita Cancer Society and his family who has achieved higher goals during this COVID-19.
